Dear friend,

Tonight at 7:30 PM marks the last performance of the Franconia (former Lee) District Nights Entertainment Series! Last but certainly not least, we will welcome the United States Army Blues.

The U.S. Army Blues, part of the United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” is the premier jazz ensemble of the US Army. After informal beginnings in 1970, this 18-piece ensemble became an official element of the Army Band in 1972.

The Army Blues strive to fulfill their mission through public concerts, educational outreach, and the preservation of the tradition of America’s unique art form: jazz.

Please bring your friends and family as we close the summer with one final amazing performance! The show starts tonight at 7:30 pm at the Lee District Park Amphitheater (6601 Telegraph Road, Franconia).

Please contact my office if we can assist you.

Supervisor Lusk In the Community

The new Hybla Valley Community Garden has already produced several successful harvests! The harvested vegetables provide local families with access to healthy food options. I'm thankful for the work of local residents and our garden partners: Arcadia Farms, Northern Virginia Soil & Water Conservation District, and the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors!

To make the community garden more enjoyable for all, members of my staff, Fairfax County Public Works, and I assembled a table in the middle of the garden. Local residents were quick to use the new amenity!

It was a pleasure to join Deputy Fire Chief Willie Bailey, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, and the Fairfax County Police Department for the first-ever backpack drive at the new Hybla Valley Community Center!

Fairfax County Police Retail Outreach Forum

Please join the Fairfax County Police Department, Springfield Town Center, and other stakeholders as we discuss ways to keep our vibrant business community safer. Presentations by criminal justice and industry experts will be provided as well as a roundtable for further discussion and time for networking.

The event is planned to be held at the Regal Cinemas at Springfield Town Center on Wednesday, September 14th.

Become a Fairfax County Volunteer Firefighter or EMT!

Become a Fairfax County Volunteer Firefighter or EMT!

Fairfax County has one of the most well-respected fire and rescue departments in the country, but did you know that hundreds of your neighbors are volunteer firefighters, EMTs and administrative support members who also contribute to the cause? There are 39 fire stations located in the county, and 12 are volunteer departments that feature career staff and volunteers.

Volunteers come from all walks of life, have a mix of professional and educational backgrounds, and represent our diverse community. No prior experience is necessary - volunteers will be trained to provide the same level of service as career employees.

If you've ever driven by an accident or fire, seen an ambulance providing stand-by service at a 5K or high school football game, or felt proud of our search and rescue team when they respond to crises around the world and thought "Maybe I could do that" - you can!

Critical Need for Blood Type-O Donations

Inova Blood Donor Services has an urgent need for blood donations with less than a two-day supply of Type-O blood on the shelves to support patients across our community. All donors – but especially Type-O donors - can make an appointment today or walk-in to one of Inova’s local donor centers.

Schedule an appointment online at www.inovablood.org or call at 1-866-256-6372.

Fairfax County Public Library Modifies Branch Hours

Effective Aug. 14, all regional and community Fairfax County Public Library (FCPL) branches are moving to a modified schedule due to ongoing staff recruitment challenges. These hours will be in effect indefinitely.

What to Know About the Jury Duty Process

You may be one of approximately 70,000 Fairfax County or City of Fairfax residents receiving a jury duty questionnaire in the mail soon.

Just because you received a questionnaire does not mean you will be summoned for jury duty. Potential jurors are randomly selected from voter registration lists to represent a cross section of the community. The questionnaire is the beginning of a screening process to determine who is qualified to serve. You can mail the questionnaire back or, preferably, fill it out online:
